OK – I’ve been busy since I got back, but I promised myself I would tell the story of DragonCon 2006. However, I’m out of time right now, so, instead, I will tell SuperMark’s story of DragonCon 2006. In Pictures!
Above, you see Justin, SuperMark and Nicole (PSEUDONYM!!!!) sitting at a table Saturday night. You can see the spot where I would be sitting were I not taking the picture. You can also see that I would be sitting on the table. Yeah, that's how I roll.
Mark and Shazam. Nah, just kidding, Markie. That's really Captain Marvel. If you want more info about the difference, or origin of the phrase, or even the ANTITHESIS of the phrase, please ask him. Just not when I am around. {grin}
Why, I can't believe it: It's the Greatest American Hero! (and if you don't have "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air" stuck in your head now, then the terrorists have won.)
Penny Arcade's Cardboard Tube Samurai is clearly kicking some butt here - sadly, it is the butt of a break-dancin' Markie. And now... the piece de resistance:
Dr Strange, times two! How geekily happy he looks here. As he should. The fan-boy-ness-itude was *dripping* off of him. I'm glad I was able to document it, however.

Hey, cool. That's me!
Or, well, the opposite of cool, maybe. A geeky kind of coolness - kind of like bulldogs can be cute in an ugly sort of way? No?
But why didn't you tell me I needed to tuck my T-shirt in? I look like a total dweeb.
(Yes, even for a guy wearing a Superman T-shirt standing next to guys dressed up as other superheroes. It's all relative.)
Ahem.
Chosen from among all others by the immortal elders Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury, Billy Batson and his Mentor travel the highways and byways of the land on a neverending mission to right wrongs, develop understanding, and seek justice for all. In times of dire need, young Billy has been granted the power by the immortals to summon awesome forces at the utterance of a single word:
SHAZAM!
A word which transforms him, in a flash, into the mightiest of mortal beings, Captain Marvel!
Here we have three different types of intersection between superheroes and TV. Cap had a 1970s Saturday morning TV show that was what got me into superheroes in the first place. Doctor S had a 1970s made-for-TV movie that is bad enough to turn anyone off of the idea of superheroes completely. And Ralph was created expressly for a TV sitcom in the 1980s.
All of them great characters and well-done costumes. I mean, I could pick nits, but I won't. 'Cause that's how I roll.
