In honor of Obama's 'speech on race'

Let America Be America Again

by Langston Hughes
Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

(suggestion - try reading it out loud, and see if you don't tear up a little)

Langston Hughes was a great poet, however relating what he said to what is currently happening in our country is fallacious.

Obama's 'Change' and racial talk is fallacious as well.

America is truly the Land of Opportunity, and those who do not sieze and will not appreciate what they have speak of 'Change' and 'the need for Equality' and 'Corporate Greed' and 'Oppression'. The human spirit CANNOT be stopped by such self imposed words unless one is weak and does not believe in independence and self determination.

'There is a Bad Man keeping me from my achievements!' Bah.

Only in this country can one truly achieve ones dreams, regardless of race, upbringing, etc. it just takes perseverance, attitude, hard work and honesty. Race, background, religion, political views, and especially Political Parties (as they currently exist and have existed for the past 232 years) have nothing to do with it.

Any candidate that speaks of race and inequality rings hollow, because your life is what you make of it in this country...the examples are manyfold of success.

Just thought I'd say that, because before we all shed a tear and start pining for some 'America' that Hughes wrote about a long time ago, we might want to appreciate that it may actually exist today.... and has for some decades (since 1960's).

Don't agree with me? Well then try Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Sudan, Russia or Namibia on for size, and get back to me later - Particularly Mr. 'Change' Obama.
